From privacy screens to landscape accents
In the hands of an inspired gardener or landscape designer, a trellis or arbor becomes much more than just a simple structure. Trellises and arbors can be masters of disguise, transforming a garage wall or other nondescript space into a riot of color and life. A trellis or arbor can lavishly welcome guests into a home or patio; create a quiet and secluded spot for reading, meditating, or sleeping; support a climbing rose bush or grape vine; or stand alone as an accent piece that graces any event from a summer BBQ to a wedding reception. Here are some ideas on how to make use of your garden trellis or arbor.
Privacy
If your patio or yard looks over a busy street or is often looked over by nosy neighbors, getting the full benefit of your R&R patio time can be difficult. Privacy trellises are ideal for screening out unwanted sights or overabundant sunshine, creating a discreet hideaway nestled within the sights and smells of nature. An added benefit of installing a privacy trellis is that creates an inviting spot for birds and butterflies.

Accent Garden arbors and trellises are commonly used as accent pieces or focal points within a landscape. This can be done in any number of ways, from creating elaborate entryways to using an arbor as a screen or transitional point between one section of a yard or garden and another. Large arbors might also be used alongside a patio as a spillover area for potted plants or a backdrop for a favorite glider or Adirondack chair. Special events If you have a special event coming up that requires photos, such as a wedding or family gathering, a garden arbor could provide an attractive setting for snapshots or more formal photographs of the event. Many of our arbors and trellises are lovely both with and without climbing plants, and could serve in a snap as a low-cost backdrop for your special occasion. | ![]() |
Plants
Buying a garden trellis or arbor for the sake of your plants is as good a reason as any. Remember to anchor it securely, and choose a spot that will get enough sunshine without throwing other plants into the shade.
